Lainey Wilson @ the Grammy Museum

"if you're gonna be a dreamer you better be a doer "

"tickets sold out" "more tickets available" "tickets sold out" "more tickets... how is the Grammy Museum adding tickets to the venue? when you see a show at the museum, there are movie theater-style seats that are quite literally bolted to the ground I couldn't comprehend how they got MORE seats..

with the latest release Whirlwind, Wilson visited the *new* Ray Charles terrace at the Grammy Museum (with so, so many more seats haha). I saw Wilson live in the summer before the release where she teased so much of the new album. I was laughing, crying, smiling, and jumping around, crying all over again. you name it, I felt it. It's an understatement to say I was waiting for the day Whirlwind dropped. With so many country albums coming out these past few weeks, Wilson has stood out like a North Star. I don't know if its because I'm getting to that age where it's time I packed up my old ways and grew up or if I've had my heart broken just enough times that this album resonates with me but since its release it has gone platinum 3x over in my car.

while interviewed by Allison Hagendorf, Wilson mentions that she had been working on Whirlwind before Bellbottom Country. needing to tell a new story she approached the album by asking herself, "what's something I've learned about myself that I wanted to share with my friends? ... what do I want to be singing about for the rest of my life?" she continues discussing the whole album sharing special moments in writing: Hang Tight Honey was written in 30 minutes. the same person, Jason Nix, who wrote Things A Man Ought to Know with Wilson, wrote Hang Tight Honey With Her. When she writes she thinks about the perspective of every single kind of person who would be listening to her music to make sure it resonates with her fans. when writing Good Horses with Miranda Lambert, 3 little bluebirds landed on the balcony, Miranda mentioned that the same exact thing happened in the same spot while she was sitting there writing Bluebird with Luke Dick. The line "smack dab in the middle of it" from the Middle of It are verbatim words she told heart wrangler friends while sitting on the floor of her unfurnished home during a time when she only was home for a total of 30 days out of a year of touring. her career was finally taking off and it felt like everything else at home was falling apart, "Sometimes it was hard for [her] to take a step back and realize where [she] started and where [she is] gonna end up, and the more that we talked about it... we realized you're not supposed to know and that's the beauty of it." Whiskey Colored Crayon pays homage to the storytelling traditions of her family. The title track Whirlwind talks about how life moves fast, you have to find yourself along the way, "stepping into whatever you were called to do.. and relaxing a little bit more and making sure to zoom out and be aware of everything that's happening. with the whirlwind, there's a lot of ups and a lot of downs and you gotta focus on the eye of the storm and that's where the peace is... these songs brought me [Wilson] home ..when I was nowhere near home" Whirlwind takes inspiration from Stevie Nicks. The album is influenced by each band member and spans from influences of punk, funk, jazz, blues, rock and roll, Americana, and storytelling.

Aside from the album, Out of Oklahoma from the Twisters sound track was written after Wilson was flown to Los Angeles to watch an uncut version of Twisters. The Twisters soundtrack is the first soundtrack of a blockbuster with all original country music since 1980 (Urban Cowboy) she was one of the first artists to be asked to be on the album.

When asked what her goals for the next few years are, Wilson states, " [My] dream keeps changing every day." she lives life by, " not being afraid to say yes... everything that has been scary has been worth it."

PS: she teased her picking up acting again in the new season of Yellowstone.
